JAMES CLARK "J.C." SOUTHERLAND, age 84, of Cleveland, GA passed away on Monday, July 12, 2010, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Southerland was born on November 16, 1925 in Demorest, GA to the late Mr. and Mrs. Perry and Willie Mae Taylor Southerland. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, George Southerland. Mr. Southerland was a member of the White Creek Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran having served in WWII as a teletype operator. Mr. Southerland was a member of the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720, American Legion Post #0016, and Amvets Post # 56. He was a self employed refrigeration and air-conditioner contractor, being a member of the Refrigeration Service Engineer's Society "RSES". Survivors include wife, Juanita Watkins Southerland, Cleveland, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Wallace and Karol Southerland, Richard and Laura Southerland, and Michael and Sharon Southerland, all of St. Clair Shores, MI; sisters, Gladys Halford, Clarkesville, GA, and Evelyn Howard, Cornelia, GA; 1 grandson, Perry James Southerland. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA with Rev. Eddie Tanner and Rev. Gene Batson officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post # 84, Rabun County DAV Chapter 15, and Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA.
