J. G. "Bud" Parham

June 29, 1920 — May 17, 2008

J. G. "BUD" PARHAM, age 87, of Cornelia, Georgia died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Parham was born on June 29, 1920 in Clarke County, Georgia to the late J. B. and Alice Dalton Parham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Parham. Mr. Parham was a graduate of Homer High School and a 1939 graduate of Habersham College; having also attended the University of Georgia and Piedmont College. He was a United States Army veteran having served overseas in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign in Europe during World War II and having earned the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Parham was an active member of the Cornelia First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 46 years; there he had served as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director, Sunday School Secretary, and Training Union Teacher. Mr. Parham was a member of the Southern Baptist Men's Sunday School Class, the Tuesday Morning Men's Work Group and he was involved in the Men's Ministries, Camp Agape, and the Building and Grounds Committee at his church. He was retired from Lee Arrendale State Prison as Vocational Instructor with 17 years of service. Mr. Parham was a life member of the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720 in Cornelia. Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Effie Clark Parham, Cornelia, GA; his sons and daughters-in-law: Ronnie and Pat Parham, Cornelia, GA; Larry and Janet Parham, Mt. Airy, GA; his sister-in-law: Frances Parham, Monroe, GA; his grandchildren: Alice and Grant Gunter, Cornelia, GA; Brittany Parham, Mt. Airy, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from the Cornelia First Baptist Church with Rev. David Turner and Rev. Greg Walton officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Cornelia First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 96, Cornelia, GA 30531.
