MRS. IRMA BAZEMORE GAILEY, age 91 of Cornelia passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Gailey was born in Screven County, Georgia on September 24, 1919, one of 12 children, to the late Jesse S. and Jenny Scott Bazemore. She was a graduate of the Georgia State College for Women in Millegeville, Georgia. After a brief career as a nutritionist at the Commercial Hotel and manager of the Dixie Theater, she became a homemaker. Mrs. Gailey was very much involved in every aspect of her children's lives, including making sure that they were in church on Sunday. She served in school as Grade Mother for her children and car pool driver. She was the only remaining member of the original Baldwin Congregation that became the Cornelia Christian Church. Mrs. Gailey served as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher, on the Ladies Council, and was also responsible for placing flowers in the church on a regular basis. Mrs. Gailey was known for her accomplished Southern Cooking in which she shared generously with family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, nurturing ferns that she had for over 60 years, and was known for her gardening hats. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Gailey. Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Teeslink, Cornelia, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Bob Cook, Atlanta, GA; son, Rod Gailey, Baldwin, GA; sister, Neta Hagan, Pembroke, GA; grandchildren, Tara Conway, Augusta, GA; Christy Ziglar, Caroline Gordon, Ty Gailey, Hannah MacMillan, all of Atlanta, GA; Katie Grady, Boone, NC; Andy Cook, Norcross, GA; Will Gailey, Denver, CO; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011, from the Cornelia Christian Church with Mr. David Terrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Baldwin, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the North Chapel in Demorest from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday.
