Helen Katherine Nix

MRS. HELEN KATHERINE NIX, age 82 of Dawsonville, Georgia, and better known as "Granny" to her family, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2011 at her residence following a brief illness. Born in Murphy, North Carolina on June 25, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Ottis and Ora Townson Turner. Mrs. Nix was a homemaker and a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Atlas Thomas Nix. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sue & David Braden, Oliver Springs, TN; Sandra & George Malcomsom, Lavonia, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Harry & Sue Nix, Blairsville, GA; Rev. David & Donna Nix, Dawsonville, GA; sisters, Christine Eller, Cornelia, GA; Willa Mae Holloway, Murphy, NC; brothers, Herb Turner, Dalton, GA; Clyde Turner, Toccoa, GA; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel in Baldwin, Georgia with the Rev. Harry Nix and the Rev. David Nix officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston, Georgia with the Rev. Lamar Purcell officiating at the graveside. The Nix family will receive friends at the South Chapel in Baldwin from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
