HELEN HAMES DIXON, age 79, of Clarkesville, GA, died Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Dixon was born on November 19, 1929 in Clarkesville, Georgia to the late James Corbett, Sr. and Grace Woodall Hames. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Claude Dixon, and a brother, H.M. "Buddy" Hames. Mrs. Dixon was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church having served as a past church secretary and was an active member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She was retired from Standard Telephone Company. Survivors include: her daughter: Linda Hammond, Tucker, GA; her daughters and sons-in-law: Rebecca and Elias Daboub, Flowery Branch, GA; Claudia and Leigh Freeman, Tucker, GA; her brothers and sisters-in-law: James Corbett, Jr. and Louise Hames, Clarkesville, GA; John Davis and Roberta Hames, Montezuma, GA; her sister-in-law: Ovaline Hames, Clarkesville, GA; her grandchildren: Joshua Hammond, Elizabeth Higgins, Anna Watson, Ashley Freeman, and Jon Daboub; 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009 from the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Furman Lewis officiating. Interment will follow Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Bill Cashion officiating at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia from 7 until 9 p.m. on Thursday Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy of Georgia, 3300 Northeast Expressway, Building 9, Atlanta, GA 30341 or online at www.ucpga.org.
