Harry Lee Kirkland, Jr.

Harry Lee Kirkland, Jr., age 58, of Mt. Airy, Georgia; loving son, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and hero to many, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2010. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida on February 26, 1952, he was a son of Catherine Gamble Kirkland of Clarkesville, Georgia and the late Harry Lee Kirkland, Sr. Mr. Kirkland was retired from the Miami - Dade County Fire Department after 20 years of service and enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid fisherman, loved cooking on the grill, and gardening. He was a member of the I.A.F.F.(International Association of Firefighters) and the Miami-Dade Firefighters Benevolent Association. Survivors in addition to his mother include his loving wife of 27 years, Lynn Ryan Kirkland, Mt. Airy, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Christina and Sean York, Angie and Josh Kerr, all of Mt. Airy, GA; granddaughter, Caitlyn York, Mt. Airy, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Mariann and Russ Dellerba, Willow Springs, NC; brother, David Kirkland, Melbourne, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marnie Kirkland, Clarkesville, GA; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel in Baldwin with Dr. Kenneth Franklin officiating. Mr. Kirkland's wishes were to be cremated. The family will receive friends at the South Chapel in Baldwin from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday.
