Gladys Gilbert Newell

GLADYS GILBERT NEWELL, age 98, of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, August 08, 2012. Mrs. Newell was born in Jefferson County, Illinois on August 8, 1914; she was the daughter of the late Roy Franklin and Jennie Belle Olomon Gilbert. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Newell. Mrs. Newell was a member of Cornelia Christian Church. She retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse with 33 years of service. Mrs. Newell was a prolific writer; she began writing poetry as a teenager and was recognized for her achievements in that area in 2000 when she was published in the book, "Poets of the Century." In 2010 she published "Inspirational Witticisms and Devotions." Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Audra and Richard White, Cocoa, FL and Phyllis and David Terrell, Cornelia, GA; two sisters, Freida Schmidt, Woodlawn, IL, and Marjorie Peterson, Clinton, IL; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2012, at Cornelia Christian Church with Rick Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Level Grove Cemetery, Cornelia, GA. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, August 9, 2012, Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missions Fund at: Cornelia Christian Church, 1244-Hwy 441 By Pass, Cornelia, GA 30531 or the mission of your choice.
