Gladys Payne Echols

Gladys Payne Echols, age 98, of Cornelia, GA died Friday, March 28, 2008 at her residence. Ms. Echols was born in Hall County on May 31, 1909 to the late Walker and Nancy Wheeler Echols. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Payne, her brother, E.E. Echols, and a sister, Cirene Barrett. Ms. Echols was a member of the Belton Baptist Church, and a member of the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720 Auxillary. Survivors include her daughters: Marvine Tatum, of Cornelia, GA, Janette Brown, Atlanta,GA, and Winnie Lou Cox, Atlanta, GA, sister, Boyd McEver, Lula, GA, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 pm, on Saturday, March 29, 2008, with Rev. Robert Nix officiating at Belton Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA.
