Gerald Douglas Whitmire

Gerald Douglas Whitmire, age 68, of Mt. Airy, Georgia passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Mr. Whitmire was born in Dawson County, Georgia on May 28, 1942, to the late McKinley and Lula Carnes Whitmire. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in by his daughter Teri Usher, sisters, Opal Hammond, Betty Cahill, Lillian Whitmire, and Martha Jean Whitmire, brothers, Jack, Junior, and Jerry Whitmire. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a hard working business man. He was the former owner and operator of the following: Whitmire Convenience Store and Restaurant, The Fish House, at Clarkesville, and The Stew and Que, of Baldwin. He was owner of G&L Automotive and Body Shop. Mr. Whitmire loved working with people and enjoyed serving them over the many years. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Survivors include wife, Leasie McDuffie Whitmire, Mt, Airy, GA; daughter, Dee Evans, Clarkesville, GA, daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Dino Medler, Millington, TN, Sherri and Don Orcutt, Germantown, MD and Denise and Jamie McWilliams, Baldwin, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tracy Lewallen, Homer, GA; sisters, Ellen Hammond, Mt. Airy, GA, Joy Dixon, Darlena Church, Lynn Sims, all of Clarkesville, GA and Josephine Nix, Cumming, GA; brother, Talmadge Whitmire, Mt. Airy, GA; 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Rev. William Baker, and Rev. J.R. Elrod officiating. Burial will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Luther Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in Demorest.
