GEORGE LEONARD STANCIL, SR., age 93, of Demorest, Georgia, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Stancil was born on April 10, 1919, in White County, Georgia, to the late Wesley and Fannie Beech Stansel. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Mae Sisk Stancil. Mr. Stancil was a United States Army veteran where he proudly served his country during World War II. He retired from Habersham Mills with 51 years of loyal and dedicated service. Mr. Stancil was also a cattle and chicken farmer having built his first chicken house in 1951. He was a member of the Amy's Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Weiner, Demorest, GA; son, George Leonard Stancil, Jr., Demorest, GA; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Stancil was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Austin Kelley, Rev. Michael Irvin, and Rev. Steve Merck officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at the funeral home.
