FRANCES S. PHILLIPS, age 81, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at a local area hospital following a sudden illness. Mrs. Phillips was born on March 20, 1932, in Anderson County, South Carolina; daughter of the late Bennie Thomas and Essie Durham Seigler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Lewis Waldrop, Jr.; three brothers; and six sisters. Mrs. Phillips retired from Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute with 16 years of dedicated service. She was a volunteer "Pink Lady" with the Hospital Auxiliary, as well as a volunteer with the Cornelia Soup Kitchen. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Baldwin Baptist Church. Frances was an avid reader, loved to travel, tell jokes, and loved her grandkids. She was a very compassionate, kind, and sweet spirit. Survivors include her devoted and loving husband of 61 years, Billy Joe Phillips, Cornelia, GA; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and John Roll, Cumming, GA; daughter, Sharon Waldrop, Lula, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Joe and Sally Phillips, Newton, NC; grandchildren, Melissa Reed, Dustin Waldrop, David Roll, Scott Roll, Ellen Phillips, Kevin Phillips, and Neal Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Noah and Ethan Reed and Liberty and Lorelei Waldrop. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia, with Rev. Scott Brown and Rev. Mark Vandiver officiating. A private interment will follow. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the funeral home. Arrangements are in the care of Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
