Frances Ellison Burke

FRANCES ELLISON BURKE, age 94, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at a local care facility. Mrs. Burke was born on August 1, 1918, in Habersham County, Georgia; daughter of the late George Matthew and Susie Trotter Ellison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Coleman Burke; sisters, Catherine Logan and Louise Callam; and brother, Rothell Ellison. Mrs. Burke taught 7th grade in Clarkesville for a number of years and then became a social worker with the Habersham County DEFACS. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Clarkesville. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jim Massey, Jasper, GA; sister, Judy Ellison, Clarkesville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, C.J. and Mildred Ellison, Clarkesville, GA; and grandchildren, Josh Massey and Jeremy Massey. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Pastor Lisa Graves officiating. Interment will follow in Clarkesville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour on Sunday.
