Fanneal Simmons Mathis

Fanneal Simmons Mathis, age 83, of Baldwin, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at the Oaks at Scenic View. Mrs. Mathis was born on March 17, 1928; she was a native and lifelong resident of Banks County. Mrs. Mathis was the daughter of the late Cleve and Martha Broome Simmons. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George Mathis, brothers, Branson Simmons and Grover Simmons. Survivors include her sister, Mozelle Simmons, Hollingsworth, son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Lynn Mathis of Athens, 4 grandchildren, Beth Anne Mathis, Maria Mathis, Mallory Mathis, and Melany Mathis; sister-in-law, Novella Simmons and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2011, at Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Vandiver, Rev. Edward Bolen, and Rev. Darryl Mathis officiating. Mrs. Mathis will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00- 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2011, from Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA. The family requests that contributions be made to the: Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5223 Old Hwy 441 N Baldwin, GA 30511.
