Ethel Lanette Erwin Ivester Smith, age 86, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Mrs. Smith was born on October 3, 1927 in Habersham County, to the late John Candler and Margie Morris Erwin. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Lamar Ivester; second husband, Tom Smith; sisters, Fannie Tilson, Caroline Watkins, Maybelle Ivie, Pauline Batson, Ollie Thompson, Louvenie Simmons; brothers, Lewis Erwin, Earnest Erwin, Coleman Erwin, Homer Erwin and Ray Erwin. Mrs. Smith was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was retired from Carwood Manufacturing with fifty years of service. Mrs. Smith was the last survivor of twelve siblings. Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Clyde and Gwen Ivester, Alto; granddaughters and spouses, Amy and Josh Allen, Katie and Shannon Irvin; great grandchildren, Josiah Irvin, Elihu Irvin, Isaac Irvin, Ava Allen. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 pm on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia with Rev. Roy Lee Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery with Rev. Shannon Irvin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2014.
