Doris Mabel Martin Doris Martin, born August 16, 1928 in Franklin, NC to Pearl and Perry Swafford, passed away peacefully October 26 at Skyland Care Center. Doris shared her life for seventy years and is survived by her husband, Andrew Davis Martin, of Tuckasegee. She was preceded in death by son James Michael Martin, sisters Grace and Annie, and brothers, Harold, Frank, Ray, and Carl. She is survived by daughters Sandra (David) Ausburn of Baldwin, GA, Gail (Richard) Otto of Franklin, NC, and Glenda (Bobby) Sherman, also of Franklin; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Doris and Dave, area veterans, beloved friends, and dedicated community volunteers, formed and built Mike Martin Post 9493 in Tuckasegee, in memory of their son and all veterans who gave their lives, protecting our freedom. Ms Doris also served several terms as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of which she was a lifetime member. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 31 in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva, with Rev. Jack Hinson officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Ausburn, Michael Webb, Matthew Haines, Bill Messer, Jim Mincey, and Richard Wittekind. The family will receive friends prior to the service between 1:00 and 2:00 pm and burial will follow in the Tuckasegee Baptist Church Cemetery.
