Donald J. "Don" Adkins

Donald J. "Don" Adkins, age 86, of Helen, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 after a bout with cancer. Mr. Adkins was born on April 25, 1932 in Westchester County, New York to the late Darius and Edith Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Adkins and step-son, Dan Neary. Before retirement, Don served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict. After completing his service with the Marines, Don was a roofing contractor and retail shop owner in Helen. Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Teresa Adkins, of Helen; sister, Judith Kirkpatrick, of Maryland; daughter and son-in-law, Madeline and Steve Augustine, of North Carolina; step-children, Barbara Hollis, of Sautee Nacoochee; James Neary, of Cleveland; Janet and Allen Hope, of Sautee Nacoochee; grandchildren, Steven Augustine, Donnie Augustine; and great-grandchild, Dillon Augustine. Don's wishes were to be cremated. No Formal Services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, buy a veteran lunch or dinner, honor them while they are alive.
