David Payne

David Payne, age 82, of the Hollingsworth Community, Banks County, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009. Mr. Payne was born on February 19, 1927 in Banks County, Georgia to the late Herschel and Elsie Lane Payne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alec Payne. Mr. Payne was a graduate of the Baldwin High School and was a United States Navy World War II veteran. He was a member of the Line Baptist Church and was a retired poultry and cattle farmer. Mr. Payne was a former board member of the B.J.C. Medical Center Board with 15 years of service and a former member of the Banks County Cattlemen's Association. Survivors include: his wife and dedicated companion of 61 years: Lurlene Ward Payne, Hollingsworth, GA; his daughters and sons-in-law: Kay and Rev. Tim House, Gillsville, GA; Kim and Andy Harris, Baldwin, GA; his son and daughter-in-law: Eddie and Jane Payne, Clarkesville, GA; his sister and brother-in-law: Priscilla and Bob Mabrey, Baldwin, GA; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia with Rev. Kenneth McEntire and Rev. Tim House officiating. Interment will follow in the Line Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, The Rabun County DAV Chapter #15, and the Habersham County American Legion Post #84. The family will receive friends at the South Chapel from 6 until 9 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2009 and from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. just prior to the funeral hour on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1841 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30329 or to the Line Baptist Church, 594 Spring Road, Baldwin, GA 30511. Arrangements are in the care of Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
