DAVID DOW BLACK, JR., age 85, of Cherryville, NC, died Monday, May 29, 2006 at a private care facility. Mr. Black was born on January 6, 1921 in Gaston Co, NC. He was a son of the late David Dow, Sr. and Odie Mae Pendleton Black and was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mallie Smith Black as well as 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Mr. Black was a United States Army World War II veteran. He belonged to the non denominational Christian Fellowship. Mr. Black was Owner and Operator of Black's Grill for over 60 years along with his wife Mallie. Survivors include: his son and daughter-in-law: Dr. David Dow Black III and Deborah, Baldwin, GA; his daughter: Helen McGinnis, Cherryville, NC; his daughter and son-in-law: Barbara and Keith Hastings, Cherryville, NC; Sister: Geneva "Toots" Davis, Cherryville, NC; 5 grandchildren: Sabrina and Chuck Bowyer, Cherryville, NC; Kevin and Lisa Hastings, Cherryville, NC; Kim and Jason Peeler, Cherryville, NC; Heidi Black, Canton, GA; Abi Black, Baldwin, GA; 5 Great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2006 from the Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home chapel with Mr. Tom Nussbaum and Mr. Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
