CHARLES EDWIN "CHARLIE" BELL, age 81, of Clarkesville, GA, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Bell was born on April 21, 1926 in Fulton County, Georgia to the late John Wesley and Ethel Blair Bell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jane Bell, sisters, Leila Brown and Dovie Thomas as well as brothers, Fermon Bell and Angus Bell. Mr. Bell was a member and deacon of the Return Baptist Church. He was a United States Army World War II veteran and was retired from Fieldale. Survivors include: his wife: Fannie Mae Holt Bell, Clarkesville, GA; his daughter and son-in-law: Glenda and Rev. Larry Ryals, Clarkesville, GA; his brother: Robert Bell, Mt. Airy, GA; Grandchildren: Christy Ryals, Demorest, GA; Melanie and Richard Acker, Clarkesville, GA; Jonathan Ryals, Savannah, GA; Cadie Lane and Jay Dee Barron, Dahlonega, GA; Great-grandchildren: Taylor, Ryalie, and Hunter Acker. Local funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 from the Whitfield funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with Rev. Walter Burrell and Rev. Connie Berry officiating. A second service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 from the Flats of Middle Creek Baptist Church in Scaly Mountain, NC with interment following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday. Mr. Bell will be placed in the Flats of Middle Creek Baptist Church on 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday to lie in state until the funeral hour.
