Charles "Curley" Hallford

Mr. William Charles "Curley" Hallford, age 82 of Law House Road, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at Richard Campbell VA Nursing Home in Anderson, South Carolina. A son of the late Howard Acree "Acke" and Estelle Ivester Hallford, he was born July 23, 1931 in Franklin County, Georgia having lived in Conyers and Savannah, Georgia and Greenville and Seneca, South Carolina and moved back to Toccoa in 2002. He graduated from Carnesville High School in 1949 and was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from G & P Trucking Company as a diesel mechanic overseer in 1996, was a member of the South Carolina Truckers Association and the National Truckers Association. He was named Truck Safety Director of the Year in 1981, received the Billy Fallaw Safety Directors Ring, and was an officer in the South Carolina Council of Safety Supervisors. SCTA awarded him the 110% award established in 1993 and he received the lifetime achievement award. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended Hezabeth Baptist Church in Seneca, South Carolina, a member of the Men's Sunday School Class and the Outreach Program. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Mozelle and D.B. Holland, sister, Joanne Hallford, brother, Jack Hallford, nephews, Trenton Carter and Del McFarlin and by a brother-in-law, Roy McFarlin. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary McFarlin Hallford of the home; son, Tony Hallford of Toccoa, Georgia; two grandsons, William Michael Hallford and Dustin Heath Hallford both of Carnesville, Georgia; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Brenda Hallford of Toccoa, Georgia and Donald and Asalene Hallford of Carnesville, Georgia; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ondeene and Darwin Carter of Eastanollee, Georgia and Barbara McFarlin of Pelzer, South Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Ossie Adams, Gail McFarlin and Lutrelle McFarlin all of Toccoa. Funeral services will be Monday, February 3, 2 O'clock PM in the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend Ricky McFarlin, the Reverend Tim Bennett and the Reverend Roger Elrod officiating. Nephews and great-nephews will serve as pallbearers, Jeff Holland, Jody McFarlin, Justin Price, Louis Hallford, Steve Hallford, John Hallford, Jason Hallford and Derek Hallford. The family will be at the home on Law House Road and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 PM to 8 PM.
