Charles E. Barrett

CHARLES E. BARRETT, age 90, of Carnesville, GA, formerly of Cornelia, GA, died Monday, December 3, 2007 at a private care facility following an extended illness. Mr. Barrett was born on November 1, 1917 in White County, Georgia to the late Gilbert and Molly Oaks Barrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Barrett, his sisters, Kathleen Hulsey and Rosa Lee Barrett, and a grandchild, Christopher Poole. Mr. Barrett was a United States Army Air Force World War II veteran having served as a member of the West Coast Defense Command. He was a member of the Hebron Lodge #564 F. & A.M. and the Red Hill Chapter #417 Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Barrett was a farmer and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include: his wife: Sally Barrett, Carnesville, GA; his sons: Kelvin Poole, Crawford, GA; Kerwin Herrin, Flowery Branch, GA; Jonathan Barrett, Carnesville, GA; Edward Barrett, Carnesville, GA; his sister: Montine Copeland, Gainesville, GA; his brothers: James Barrett and Tom Barrett, both of Gainesville, GA; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Rev. John Humphries, Rev. Keith Frank, and Mr. Kerwin Herrin officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and the Habersham County American Legion Post #84. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
