BURCE ELIAS RIGGINS, SR., age 83, of Mt. Airy, GA, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Riggins was born on March 30, 1924 in Habersham County, GA to the late William "Bill" Thomas and Sally Ruth Bently Riggins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hovie L. Riggins, sisters, Thelma Alexander, Kathryn Perry, and Valdie Carroll, as well as a great-granddaughter, Keanna Virginia Riggins. Mr. Riggins was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II from 1942-1945. In 1957, he began living his life for the Lord. He was a Deacon at Currahee Baptist Church. He married the love of his life, Virginia Loudermilk on June 14, 1961; they were married 46 years when he passed away. He was retired from Schnadig Manufacturing with several years of service. Mr. Riggins loved singing the gospel, working ion his garden and his yard, spending time with his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. His family and living for the Lord were his greatest passions. Survivors include: his wife, Virginia Loudermilk Riggins, of the home; his daughter, Ruth "Rachel" Riggins, of the home; his son, Ben "Thomas" Riggins, Mt. Airy, GA; his sons and daughters-in-law: Burce Elias "Jr" and Amy Riggins, Mt. Airy, GA; John Henry and Johnny Nell "Sissy" Riggins, Turnerville, GA; his sister, Lucy Bell Stephens, Cornelia, GA; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2007 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel with Rev. David Ledford and Rev. Luther Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Glade Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
