Bertha Jewell Shirley

MISS BERTHA JEWELL SHIRLEY, age 88, of Alto, GA passed away Saturday, February 14, 2009 at a private care facility. Miss Shirley was born on December 25, 1920 in Habersham County, GA to the late Causby Jackson and Ellie King Shirley. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Pearl Smith and Lillian Chastain. Miss Shirley was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church. She retired from Carwood Manufacturing Company with 8 years of service and she was a dedicated homemaker. Survivors include her sister, Clara S. Tanksley, Alto, GA; niece, Hellen Clark, Marietta, GA; nephews, Ricky Chastain, Rome, GA, and Melvin Chastain, TN. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the B.C. Grant Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Turpin officiating. Burial will follow in the B.C. Grant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, on Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA.
