Bernard Jackson

BERNARD ALVIN JACKSON, age 82, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Cleveland, Georgia, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2012, at his residence. Mr. Jackson was born on January 22, 1929, in Cleveland, Georgia; a son of the late Charlie Welborn and Bertie Stancil Jackson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ione Jackson and Alene Chambers and his brothers, J.C., James, and Calvin Jackson. Mr. Jackson graduated from Cleveland High School in 1947. He retired from Lockheed Georgia with 41 years of service and also worked at Torco, Inc. for 30 years. Mr. Jackson married Claudine Skelton on July 6, 1951, and they had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2011. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Noonday Baptist Church in Marietta. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Claudine Skelton Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and John Kovach, Marietta, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jill Jackson, Detroit, MI, Doug and Meredith Jackson, Murfreesboro, TN, and Jeff and Caryn Jackson, Acworth, GA; brothers, Clarence Jackson, Mobile, AL, Charles Jackson, Conyers, GA, Royce Jackson, Snellville, GA, and Russell Jackson, Kingsport, TN; sister, Margie Nell Jackson, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Joshua Kovach, Brooks Jackson, Chase Jackson, Spencer Jackson, Hanna Jackson, Riley Jackson, Garrett Jackson, John Ryznar, and Brody Davis; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Ryznar and Cade Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with the Rev. Mark Akin and the Rev. Hugh Skelton officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the funeral home.
