Benny Thomas Barrs

BENNY THOMAS BARRS, age 82, of Clarkesville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Mr. Barrs was born on December 28, 1928, in Coffee County, Georgia. He was a son of the late William Thomas and Alif Raper Barrs. Mr. Barrs loved handcrafting and woodworking. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son and daughter; daughter, Helen Louise Gosnell; sister, Ruby Bosurgi; and brothers, James Elbert Barrs and Warren "Bud" Barrs. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Helen Gragg Barrs, Clarkesville, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Diann and Leon Jenkins, Clarkesville, GA, Martha and Dennis Gosnell, Homer, GA, and Donna and James Fry, Clarkesville, GA; daughter, Jeannette Barrs, Alto, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Tina Barrs, Clarkesville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Jack Atkins, Honea Path, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Grace Barrs, Lincolnton, GA and Bobbie and Faith Barrs, Honea Path, SC; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia with Rev. Paris Whitworth and Rev. Bill Free officiating. A private family interment will follow at a later date in the Alley's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
