Bascom H. Scroggs

BASCOM H. SCROGGS, age 91, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Habersham Medical Center. Mr. Scroggs was born on November 30, 1921, in Cornelia, Georgia; son of the late S.D. and Dell Martin Scroggs. He was the last surviving member of the S.D. Scroggs family. Mr. Scroggs was a Veteran of the United States Army having served his country during World War II. He retired from Fleming Wholesale Company as a salesman. Mr. Scroggs was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cornelia, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director, Building Fund Chairman, Training Union Director, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Clerk. He also served on the executive committee of the Habersham Baptist Association and was a Trustee of the Georgia Baptist Children's Home. Mr. Scroggs also went with a group to San Juan, Puerto Rico to help build a church. Bascom's greatest desire was to give more time to serving Christ and his church. Survivors include his loving wife, Mathilda Webster Scroggs, Cornelia, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Cornelia, with Dr. Eric Spivey and Rev. David Turner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
