Alfred "Jack" Dempsey Durham, age 84, of Baldwin, Georgia, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011, following complications of surgery. Mr. Durham was born in Homer, Georgia on June 25, 1927, to the late William Fletcher and Merle Ayers Durham. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Clinton Durham. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Durham was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He retired from management with Georgia Pacific. Survivors include wife, Selina Emmon Davis Durham, Baldwin, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Sonia Lynn and Robert William Newman II, Lilburn, GA; son, Dale Kent Durham, Baldwin, GA; sisters, Evelyn Mitchell, Royston, GA, Celeste Wilson, Thomasville, GA, Willene Osborn, Homer, GA, Majell Hallford, Clarkesville, GA, and Joyce Barrett, Griffin GA; brothers, Dwight Durham, Carrollton, GA, JD Durham, Mt. Airy, GA, Maxwell Durham, Clarkesville, GA; two grandchildren, Robert William Newman III, and Carrie Christine Newman. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Level Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Brian James and Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Interment will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, GA. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Debt Reduction of Level Grove Baptist Church, 157 Old Level Grove Road, Cornelia, GA 30531.
