MARVIN H. IRVIN, age 86, of Cornelia, Georgia, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital. Mr. Irvin was born on February 8, 1923 in Cleveland, Georgia to the late E. T. and Bond Potts Irvin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harold Irvin and Tarris Irvin, as well as a sister, Nelle Dalton. Mr. Irvin was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was a member and Deacon-Emeritus of the Cornelia First Baptist Church. He was an usher at his church and a member of the Southern Baptist Men's Sunday School Class where he had formerly served as President. Mr. Irvin also held many other positions of service to his church as well as in the community. He co-founded Irvin Lumber Company in 1946 and he remained a valued part of the company throughout his life. Survivors include: his wife: Mary Jo Locke Irvin, Cornelia, GA; his daughter and son-in-law: Norma and Richard Wade, Cornelia, GA; his son and daughter-in-law: David and Jean Irvin, Cornelia, GA; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Doris and Elmer Banks, Cleveland, GA; Bondell and Mike Cathy, Cleveland, GA; his sister: Barbara King, Cornelia, GA; his brother: Willard Irvin, Cornelia, GA; his brother and sister-in-law: Raymond and Mildred Irvin, Cornelia, GA; his grandchildren: James Irvin, Kathy Irvin Meredith , Beth Wade, and Kristin Wade; 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 from the Cornelia First Baptist Church with Rev. David Turner and Rev. Charles Webb officiating. Interment will follow in the Level Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday.
