Frank O. Smith, Jr.

FRANK O. SMITH, JR., age 85, of Demorest, Georgia, formerly of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Oaks at Scenic View.

Mr. Smith was born on January 25, 1927, in Dillard, Georgia; a son of the late Frank O. Smith, Sr. and Clara Mae Holcomb Smith. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Cook Smith, his son, Frank O. Smith, III, and his sister, Evelyn West. Mr. Smith was a United States Army veteran having proudly served his country in Germany during World War II. He retired from Georgia Power at Plant Hammond where he had 42 years of loyal and dedicated service. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Randy Yetman, Rome, GA; daughter-in-law, Ruth N. Smith, Rock Spring, GA; sister, Clara Ruth James, Demorest, GA; best friend, Thelma Elrod, Demorest, GA; and two grandchildren, Christopher Smith and Nathaniel Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Dr. Kenneth Franklin officiating. Interment will be held in the Peavine Baptist Church Cemetery, Rock Spring, Georgia, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2012, with Rev. John Cantrell officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour on Wednesday.
